Guide to gender mainstreaming in centre management and research project design

The core goals of this guide are to provide practical guidelines for mainstreaming gender issues in research and to contribute to the creation of a gender equality culture in centres, activating the mechanisms required for monitoring and control purposes.

The guide essentially targets research centre management and scientific staff and consists of three chapters and two annexes.

Chapter 1 describes the background to the guide, explaining why it is necessary and introducing the key concepts (sex and gender) and the two dimensions of gender mainstreaming (people management and research activity) that articulate the document. Chapter 2 provides a practical insight into the question of gender from an organisational perspective. Chapter 3 focuses on mainstreaming gender in research activity, covering the process of selecting research areas by the scientific team as well as each phase of the project. Annex 1 provides practical guidelines for mainstreaming gender into each item on European call forms, and Annex 2 offers an insight into mainstreaming gender into research institutions through the “HR Excellence in Research” seal.
