Research Managers: recognition, training and mobility at the European level

2025

This training provided a detailed overview of the European RM Comp framework, presented as a key tool for the professional recognition and career planning of research management staff. The progression model associated with RM Comp was also examined, covering levels RM1 to RM4, and explaining its structure and application in institutional contexts.

The activity also enabled the identification of specific RM Comp-based tools and resources that facilitate the implementation of professional development strategies for research management staff.

This training was aimed at directors, research management and administrative staff from the centres of the CIGUS Network. It took place on 15 May in a live online videoconference format and lasted two hours. The session was delivered by Mary Kate O’Regan, with support from Dr Olivia O’Leary. Mary O’Regan has extensive experience in the research field and has devoted much of her career to supporting research staff in a holistic way. She is currently the contact person in Human Resources for research staff at University College Cork (UCC), an institution with 990 researchers. Throughout her career, she has designed and implemented various training and professional development initiatives, in addition to overseeing the HRS4R process.
