CIMUS leads the debate on molecular imaging at the Novoa Santos lecture hall in Santiago de Compostela
December 9th, 2022
CIMUS, a member of the CIGUS network, which comprises those centres whose research quality and impact has been accredited by the Galician Autonomous Government (Xunta de Galicia),is organising a multi-disciplinary event aimed at providing participants with an insight into the state-of-the-art of numerous techniques, and which encompasses basic and pre-clinical research as well as translational and clinical research.
The event is scheduled for 19 January 2023 in the Novoa Santos lecture hall at the University Hospital in Santiago de Compostela, which will also be hosting the IV Edition of the Young Spanish Members Meeting of the European Society for Molecular Imaging or the Young Spanish Molecular Imaging Network Day (ySMIN Day); a meeting that aims to drive the training of young researchers in the field of molecular imaging. The meeting will also provide a forum for debate regarding the development of new imaging technologies, the use of different methodologies, the development of new biomarkers and contrasts and image analysis.
“Initiatives such as these seek to further collaboration between groups from various applications and/or institutes and to favour the transfer of knowledge from the preclinical phases to the implementation of new diagnostic or therapeutic techniques,” explained USC CiMUS researcher Lara García Varela, a member of the local organising committee together with Jesús Silva, also a CiMUS researcher.
Numbers are limited, and therefore participants are required to register free-of-charge at the following link
Closing date for submission of abstracts: 19th December
“The field of molecular imaging is very broad, as it includes imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging, X-rays, ultrasound, Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and other commonly available techniques such as optical imaging, microscopy and fluorescence, among others,” the researcher commented.
With this in mind, the meeting will be based on 12-minute talks and brief 6-minute presentations by young researchers who will present the results of their research. The closing date for submitting abstracts has been extended until 19th December.
Leaders in molecular imaging
The IV edition of this event will also feature two keynote speakers in the field of molecular imaging: Philip Elsinga and Ramon Iglesias. The former is a full professor of Radiochemistry at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands), whose research focuses on the development of new radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis, mainly using PET imaging. His talk, entitled “Current trends in radiopharmaceutical chemistry”, will address new radiolabelling methods.
In turn, Ramón Iglesias will focus on the role of MRI in neurological studies with a talk entitled “The role of MRI in neurological studies”. Ramón Iglesias is principal investigator of the neuroimaging and biotechnology group at the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS in its Spanish initials). His main field of research is cerebral ischaemia studied principally through magnetic resonance imaging.
The Young Spanish Members Meeting of the European Society for Molecular Imaging is sponsored by Bruker, Ai4R, Global PET and Cienytech and is coordinated by CIMUS, a member of the CIGUS Network.
