CINBIO celebrates the 3rd edition of the CinVigo Science Festival

The third edition of the CinVigo Science Festival, organised by CINBIO, a research centre attached to the University of Vigo (UVigo) and belonging to the CIGUS Network, an initiative promoted by the Xunta de Galicia that brings together the centres of the system that have accredited their scientific excellence, was successfully held on 26th, 27th and 28th April.

With the aim of bringing scientific knowledge closer to society as a whole, more than 250 secondary school, high school and vocational training students from around thirty centres in Galicia participated – presenting around 70 projects – in this event, in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, which was celebrating its third edition.

“CinVigo. Science in the street’ focuses on promoting scientific vocations among young people and, in the words of Miguel Correa, director of the CINBIO research centre, ‘we seek to multiply the return to society in the form of scientific knowledge, innovation and training’, in addition to publicising the existence in Vigo of a research centre of excellence specialising in Nanomaterials and Biomedicine.

CINBIO celebrates the 3rd edition of the festival scientific CinVigo with the aim of turning the city of Vigo into an open laboratory, this initiative included a science fair, children’s workshops, an inclusive gymkhana and several scientific shows. Nearly 70 projects from the participating secondary schools were presented at the exhibition, which tried to demonstrate physical, chemical and natural phenomena.

The winning projects in the categories Early Researchers for students in 1st and 2nd ESO, Young Researchers for 3rd and 4th ESO, and Teen Researchers for students in 1st and 2nd High School and FP training cycles, were selected by a specialised jury. The public prize, on the other hand, was decided on the basis of the more than 12,000 votes registered.
