CINBIO hosts the 5th NALS International Conference in Vigo

Vigo hosted the 5th International Conference on Nanomaterials Applied to Life Sciences (NALS 2026) from 11 to 13 March, bringing together 127 researchers in the field of nanoscience applied to biomedicine. The event was organised by the Centre for Research in Nanomaterials and Biomedicine (CINBIO), part of the CIGUS Network — an initiative promoted by the Xunta de Galicia that brings together research centres within the Galician research system that have demonstrated scientific excellence.

The conference was organised by the Hybrid Nanomaterials Group (CINBIO) and, over three days, focused on nanomaterials applied to the life sciences, an interdisciplinary field that combines chemistry, physics, biology and medicine to develop new therapeutic tools. The scientific programme addressed key issues related to the use of nanomaterials in diagnosis, disease treatment and the development of new therapies, with particular emphasis on cancer and advanced therapies.

The conference opened with an institutional event attended by representatives from the University of Vigo, the NALS Association and CINBIO, highlighting the importance of the meeting in promoting scientific exchange and international collaboration.

Most participants were from Spain, although there was also representation from other European countries including Portugal, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Greece. The programme featured plenary lectures and scientific sessions delivered by internationally recognised researchers, covering topics such as nanomedicine in paediatric cancer, metastasis processes, and the use of novel plasmonic materials for monitoring tumour activity.

NALS 2026 also saw strong participation from PhD students and early-career researchers, fostering knowledge exchange and networking among emerging scientists.
