CINBIO Launches the European Project NANO4TALENT to Attract Talent in Nanomaterials and Biomedicine
June 5th, 2025
CINBIO, a research centre of the University of Vigo and a member of the CIGUS network —an initiative promoted by the Galician Government that brings together centres in the system that have demonstrated scientific excellence— is launching the Postdoctoral Talent Attraction Program, with the aim of boosting research careers in the field of nanomaterials applied to biomedicine.
Known by the acronym NANO4TALENT, this initiative is funded with €477,600 by the European Union through a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action – Cofund under the Horizon Europe program, and is coordinated by CINBIO, with Miguel Correa as the principal investigator. The project began in January of this year and will run until December 2029.
The project consortium includes the University of Vigo along with 16 associated entities from Italy, France, Germany, and Belgium. Spanish participation includes the Universidad Miguel Hernández; the Gaiker, Biomédica Galicia Sur, and Tecnalia foundations; the Galician Aquaculture Cluster, the Association for Industry Digitalization, and DIH DataLife. Also taking part are Spanish companies such as BFlow, Qubiotech, Ibonelab, Diversa Technologies, and Nanogap, as well as international entities like Nanofaber, Institut Pasteur, Miltenyi Biotec, and the Nanotechnology Industries Association.
A collaboration agreement between the University of Vigo and the Galician Department of Education will allow CINBIO to complete the necessary funding for hiring throughout the five-year duration of this talent attraction program. Specifically, the Galician Government (Consello da Xunta) has approved an investment of €360,000 to supplement the EU funding obtained by the Vigo-based centre.
NANO4TALENT is conceived as an ambitious international cross-border postdoctoral program which, through two calls, will offer a total of five postdoctoral positions, each lasting 24 months, allowing selected researchers to develop their own interdisciplinary research projects.
Postdoctoral researchers will be able to freely define their projects, which must involve at least two research groups related to the two main areas of CINBIO: nanomaterials and biomedicine.
The first of the two recruitment calls is open until July 31, offering three of the five postdoctoral positions. The second call, expected to open in March 2027, will offer the remaining two. Both are aimed at researchers who will develop their interdisciplinary projects over 24 months.
Among the eligibility requirements, candidates must not have resided in Spain for more than 12 months during the three years prior to the formalisation of the contract.
