CINBIO researcher David Posada receives a 2023 Research Medal from the Royal Galician Academy of Science

David Posada, a full professor at the University of Vigo and leader of the Phylogenomics group at CINBIO, a member of the CIGUS Network, an initiative launched by the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) that groups together centres of proven scientific excellence within the Galician university system, has received one of the 2023 Research Medals awarded by the Royal Galician Academy of Science (RAGC).  

The CINBIO researcher received the Ángeles Alvariño González medal in the field of Biology and Health Science from the Royal Galician Academy of Science in recognition of the outstanding work he has carried out in the field of molecular evolution and computational biology over the course of his long-standing career. Highlights include his findings for the reconstruction of phylogenetic trees through the use of bioinformatic tools and his research into the origin and evolution of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. He currently leads the Phylogenomics group at the Centre for Research in Nanomaterials and Biomedicine, CINBIO, at the University of Vigo, which focuses on the molecular evolution of genomes, cells, populations and species.
