The research staff group at the University of A Coruña’s Information and Communication Technologies Research Centre (CITIC), a member of the CIGUS Network, an initiative launched by the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) that groups together centres of accredited scientific excellence within the Galician university system, has obtained the chair in Green Algorithms. The proposal by the UDC-Inditex AI Chair in Green Algorithms is one of the 21 National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) chairs awarded by Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function.
“The incorporation and collaboration of the multinational business Inditex with this chair will enable us to tackle new challenges facing the industry. It will also provide a platform for testing and scaling the results obtained within the framework of the chair”, explained Verónica Bolón, a researcher and the team leader.
Verónica Bolón, the chair’s driver, stressed that on a scientific level, the creation of the chair is an opportunity to bring together AI research staff with extensive experience in collaboration within the framework of CITIC’s activity. “This combination of multidisciplinary researchers will undoubtedly enable us to address new lines of research and offer solutions for the problems and challenges identified in the field of green algorithms”.
The chair is made up of a 20-member team, 16 of whom are affiliated to the University of A Coruña’s Information and Communication Technologies Research Centre (CITIC). Manuel G. Penedo, the centre’s director, stated, “This news is a tremendous boost to positioning CITIC as a strategic agent in the area of Artificial Intelligence. It is a way of highlighting the talent of the centre’s staff, who are major authorities in green algorithm research”.
