CiTIUS researcher Óscar Pereira, winner of the Icarus Award
December 11th, 2023

Óscar Pereira, currently a postdoctoral researcher at CiTIUS, a member of the CIGUS Network, an initiative launched by the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) that groups together centres of proven scientific excellence within the Galician university system, has received the Ícarus Award for his PhD thesis. These awards are given to scholarly works with an outstanding social and economic application.
EcoHarvest is the name of the practical application of the doctoral thesis presented by Óscar Pereira Rial, developed entirely at CiTIUS. Entitled Ultra-low power CMOS circuit design for energy harvesting applications, the project received the first of two awards granted to the best doctoral theses of the year. It is based on the design and manufacture of a type of integrated circuit (chips) capable of obtaining ongoing and sustainable energy through the use of the environmental energy sources such as sunlight, mechanical vibration, residual heat or electromagnetic waves.
Rewarding the transfer of science
The Ícarus programme is an initiative launched by the University of Santiago de Compostela’s Department of Valorisation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship (AVTE-USC), whose aim is to encourage university students to reflect on the social and economic application of the knowledge generated by their scholarship, from final first or master degree dissertations to doctoral theses.
