CRETUS opens a new call for summer internships for research initiation

The Centre for Cross-disciplinary Research in Environmental Technologies (CRETUS) of the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, part of the CIGUS Network -an initiative promoted by the Xunta de Galicia that brings together centres within the Galician research system that have demonstrated scientific excellence-, has launched a new call for summer internships for research initiation, aimed at master’s students interested in undertaking training placements linked to scientific projects in the field of environmental technologies.

The call is addressed to students enrolled in the 2025–2026 academic year in official master’s degrees related to CRETUS activity areas, which include, among others, environmental engineering, biotechnology, physics, chemistry, public health, aquaculture, marine biology, biodiversity or renewable energy.

The call envisages a minimum of 20 internships, at least five of which will be reserved for students of the Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering (MENA). The placements will last one full month, to be carried out in July, September or October 2026, with a dedication of 25 hours per week.

The programme aims to foster research talent and facilitate a first contact with the scientific activity of the center. Beneficiaries will carry out their work under the supervision of CRETUS research staff, participating in ongoing projects and in the scientific dynamics of the center.

The financial support associated with these internships will be €850 gross per month, or the proportional amount depending on the duration of the placement. This amount will be subject to the corresponding tax withholdings and Social Security contributions. In addition, travel support is available for students who do not reside in Santiago de Compostela, with a maximum of €80 for students from Galicia and €250 for students from outside Galicia, subject to justification.

Applications must be submitted through the electronic headquarters of the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela from May 28 to June 5.
