ERC researcher Manuel Souto joins CiQUS

The Singular Centre for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials  (CiQUS), a member of the CIGUS Network, an initiative launched by the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) that groups  together centres of proven scientific excellence within the Galician university system, has recently increased its talent base following the incorporation of  Manuel Souto, who for the last year has been the beneficiary of one of the European Research Council’s (ERC) Starting Grants.

“I am extremely excited about this new phase and am eager to set up the laboratory and the new team”, stated Dr Souto, who is joining the centre from the Aveiro Institute of Materials in Portugal. “I am convinced that I will be able to contribute new lines of research, several of which complement those set up by other groups in the centre, and I am therefore looking forward to working with them and contributing to positioning CiQUS as a benchmark for advancing science at the frontier of knowledge”.

Manuel Souto is the eighth CiQUS researcher to receive ERC backing, and the ELECTROCOFS project is the centre’s twelfth to be endorsed by this prestigious European organisation. Moreover, this year, CiQUS has received major funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC), further boosting the centre’s capacity to take on highly competitive and ambitious projects.
