First inter-centre meeting between CICA and CITENI to promote cooperation in the materials field

On Monday 10 March, research staff from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Chemistry and Biology (CICA), a UDC centre that it is part of the CIGUS Network – an initiative promoted by the Xunta de Galicia that brings together the centres of the system that have accredited their scientific excellence – held a first meeting with their counterparts from the Centre for Research in Naval and Industrial Technologies (CITENI) to present the lines of research of the groups linked to the field of Materials Sciences and to find potential opportunities for future collaborations.

At the beginning of the conference – which took place at the Ferrol Industrial Campus – Armando Yañez and Jaime Rodríguez, directors of CITENI and CICA respectively, welcomed the attendees. Moreover, Francisco Fernández-Trillo, Senior Lecturer and member of the BioNanoChem group at CICA, together with Jaime Martín, Research Professor and member of the CITENI Polymer Group, moderated the event as leaders of the inter-centre meeting.

Afterwards, Alicia Latorre, Head of CICA’s common facilities and services, and the director of CITENI presented the infrastructures of the centres. Throughout the morning, the research lines of the groups linked to the area of materials science were presented. The event was partially financed thanks to the European Funds received after the incorporation of the centre to the CIGUS Network. The next meeting of this inter-centre meeting will take place next year at CICA, with the aim of creating an annual cycle to promote the exchange and transfer of knowledge between research centres
