The Galician Royal Academy of Sciences (RAGC) has admitted Carlos Diéguez González as a full member of the Biology and Health Sciences section of the institution. For more than 10 years, the researcher was the director of CiMUS, part of the CIGUS Network, an initiative launched by the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) that groups together centres of accredited scientific excellence, and also headed CIBEROBN, part of the Carlos III Health Institute.
A world authority in the field of neuroendocrinology
Carlos Diéguez received his PhD from University of Santiago de Compostela’s Faculty of Medicine (USC) in 1993. Throughout his career, his research has focused on the field of Endocrinology and Nutrition. Over the last 30 years, this activity has been reflected in more than 500 papers published in international journals: 58 in Endocrinology and 46 in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, both of which belong to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. He has also published in other high impact transdisciplinary journals such as The Lancet, Nature Medicine, Physiological Reviews, Trends in Neuroscience, Trends in Molecular Medicine, EMBO Journal, etc. Carlos Diéguez also sits on the scientific committees of a number of biomedical research institutions.
He is a widely cited scientist – with over 58,000 citations – and is frequently invited to speak at prestigious international congresses such as the World Congress of Endocrinology, the European Congress of Endocrinology, the International Congress of Neuroendocrinology, the European Congress of Pharmacology, the European Congress of Neuropsychopharmacology, the World Congress of Physiology and the European Congress of Obesity, to name but a few. During the course of his career, he has supervised some thirty doctoral theses.
Highlights of the numerous accolades he has received include the Xunta de Galicia’s Research Prize in Health Sciences, the Hypocs Award (a global award for research work of outstanding relevance in neuroendocrinology), the Spanish Society of Endocrinology Medal, the Novoa Santos Award and the Geoffrey Harris Award of the European Society of Endocrinology, among others.
