CiQUS researcher Juan R. Granja receives the GEQOR’s Fèlix Serratosa Medal

The Specialized Group in Organic Chemistry (GEQOR) has awarded the Fèlix Serratosa Medal 2024 to Dr Juan R. Granja, principal investigator at the Centre for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS), a member of the CIGUS Network, an initiative launched by the regional government (Xunta de Galicia) that groups together centres of accredited scientific excellence within the Galician university system. The group of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) has thus recognised Dr Granja’s outstanding scientific career and contributions in the field of supramolecular chemistry and peptide chemistry.

Professor Granja has made significant advances in the design and synthesis of complex molecular structures, as well as in the development of new nanomaterials with applications in biomedicine and nanotechnology; he is a pioneer in the development of supramolecular nanotubes and their application to ion channel models. In addition to Dr Granja, the other recipients of GEQOR medals in this latest edition are Dr Belén Martín Matute from the University of Stockholm (the Ignacio Ribas Medal) and Dr Francisco Corzana López from the University of La Rioja (the José Barluenga Medal).

The awarding of these prestigious accolades underpins GEQOR’s commitment to excellence in chemical research. This latest recognition marks the seventh occasion that a CiQUS researcher has received one of these distinguished medals, joining other recipients such as Félix Freire (the José Barluenga Medal 2023), Concepción González Bello (the Ignacio Ribas Medal 2021), Diego Peña (the Ignacio Ribas Medal 2018), Ricardo Riguera (the Félix Serratosa Medal 2013), and Carlos Saa (the Ignacio Ribas Medal 2012). Furthermore, Juan R. Granja also received an Ignacio Ribas Medal in 2014.
