The ‘Peregrinando’ event organized by IGFAE brings international research opportunities in mathematics and physics to Santiago

The FEUGA Auditorium, located on the USC South Campus, hosted the event “Peregrinando: International Trajectories in Mathematics and Physics” on Friday, December 20. The event was organized by CITMAga (Galician Center for Mathematical Research and Technology) and IFGAE (Galician Institute of High Energy Physics), the latter belonging to the CIGUS Network, an initiative promoted by the Xunta de Galicia that brings together centers in the system that have accredited their scientific excellence. This meeting gathered eight speakers from both disciplines who have either pursued their research careers abroad or spent part of their careers abroad, showcasing the professional development opportunities available internationally. The “Peregrinando” event is especially aimed at Mathematics and/or Physics students in the early stages of their research careers or those considering this path. In addition to the talks, the event provided an opportunity for young professionals to connect with more advanced profiles in the scientific career, fostering professional connections and collaborations.

The event began with an institutional welcome by USC’s Vice-Rector for Scientific Policy, Pilar Bermejo, the Scientific Director of CITMAga, Rosa Crujeiras, and the Director of IGFAE, Carlos Salgado. Following this, eight speakers shared their experiences and research areas, highlighting how internationalization has influenced their careers: María Alonso (Assistant Professor at USC), Riccardo Borsato (Ramón y Cajal researcher at IGFAE), Gonzalo Cao (Assistant Professor at the Courant Institute of New York University), Patricia Guerra (Doctoral Student at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), David Peinador (Data Scientist at Faculty AI), Ana Peón (Professor at USC), Gabriel Rodríguez (Doctoral Student at the Technical University of Dresden), and María Vieites (Ramón y Cajal researcher at IGFAE).
